EU special rep hails peace efforts by Azerbaijan, Armenia
EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar has welcomed the ongoing efforts of Azerbaijani and Armenian experts towards a peaceful and prosperous future in the South Caucasus.
He admitted that discussions about the future of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations were accompanied by numerous challenges and violent emotions, Report informs citing foreign media.
Klaar welcomed the parties' determination to continue their efforts to build dialogue and build confidence.
The EU special representative noted that he appreciates the constant efforts of Armenian and Azerbaijani experts toward a peaceful and prosperous future in the South Caucasus.
He also reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to lasting peace.
Armenian and Azerbaijani experts met at a round table held on June 29-30 in Kakheti, Georgia, with the support of the EU. They discussed with their counterparts from the EU, the UN and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe possible scenarios for the future of a peaceful South Caucasus.
The discussions focused on scenarios in the areas of economics and communications, security, governance and cultural policy, and assessed possible steps to be taken by national governments, civil society and foreign actors to improve long-term prospects.
