Euronews: World Environment Day summit in Baku calls for global action on climate VIDEO
Global leaders, policymakers and environmental experts gathered in Azerbaijan's capital for World Environment Day 2026, calling for accelerated action to address the interconnected challenges of climate change, pollution and public health.
The event highlighted the growing environmental pressures facing communities around the world, with participants warning that air pollution alone contributes to an estimated 520,000 deaths annually across the region, according to Euronews.
Discussions focused on key global issues, including climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution and the need for stronger international cooperation to tackle these challenges.
Experts emphasised the close links between environmental sustainability, public health and economic development, noting that vulnerable communities continue to bear the heaviest burden of environmental degradation.
Speakers also stressed the importance of translating environmental commitments into concrete action, arguing that effective policy implementation, technological innovation and collective responsibility will be crucial to building a more sustainable and resilient future.
