Ex-justice minister Zeynalyan may become Armenia's ombudsman
Armenia's former justice minister Artak Zeynalyan (who worked in Pashinyan's cabinet from 2018 to 2019) may become a candidate for Armenia's ombudsman post.
No candidate has been nominated in the first 10 days as prescribed by law, Caliber.Az reports citing "Hraparak" newspaper.
The opposition considers this pointless because all its initiatives cannot pass due to the minority of votes. The ruling Civil Contract faction, on the other hand, hasn't decided yet. The law provides for another 10 days, during which the parliamentary human rights commission can present a new candidate based on self-nomination.
According to the paper, the authorities are in talks with reputable lawyers so that they can present their candidacy. Zeynalyan's name appears on that list, and he will be supported by the ruling Civil Contract in case of self-nomination.
Zeynalyan himself did not confirm this information to "Hraparak", saying that he "does not know about it, it is unexpected for him". In response to a counter-question, if he was offered the position, the former minister asked not to make any conclusions.
