Explosion at factory in Türkiye's Izmir claims one life, four injured
A deadly explosion occurred at a factory in the Aliağa district of Izmir, Türkiye, on March 29, resulting in one fatality and four injuries.
The factory, which processes waste oil and petroleum products, was severely impacted by the blast, though the cause remains under investigation, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The explosion took place in the Aliağa Organized Industrial Zone, where the factory operates. Emergency services, including gendarmerie, fire crews, and medical teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene following reports of the incident.
Upon arrival, responders confirmed that İbrahim Akyol, a worker at the facility, had tragically lost his life at the scene.
Four additional workers were injured and transported to Aliağa State Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze caused by the explosion, preventing further damage.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion. This incident follows a similar explosion at the same factory in 2022, raising concerns about safety protocols at the facility.
The factory’s operations have been suspended as the investigation continues.
