Explosion occurs at refinery in Iran's Persian Gulf Port
An explosion is reported by government media at one of Iran's largest refineries which occurred after a gas leak.
The explosion involved gas condensates and took place in the southern Bandar Abbas refinery, Iran International reports citing the IRNA state news agency.
However, an official confirmation of the incident has not been released. Details regarding the extent of damage or any potential casualties were not provided.
The Bandar Abbas oil refinery project was launched in 1992 and became operational in 1997. It is currently operating under the name of Bandar Abbas Oil Refining Company.
The nominal capacity of the facility is 350,000 barrels of crude oil and gas condensates per day, which accounts for 18 per cent of Iran's petroleum products.
