FIFA to investigate multiple countries over over World Cup final behaviour including Argentina
FIFA have finalized its disciplinary proceedings from the 2022 World Cup, with the tournament winner Argentina among the nations to be hit with sanctions.
As Al Jazeera reported, Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made a lewd gesture with his goalkeeper of the tournament trophy after the match, before being filmed in the dressing room mocking French star Kylian Mbappe against whom the Argentinan team played in the finale.
FIFA is also investigating the Argentinian Football Association over breaching media and marketing regulations.
Their official statement read regarding the sanctions read as follows: "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 11 [Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play] and 12 [Misconduct of players and officials] of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as of article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations in conjunction with the Media and Marketing Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, during the Argentina v. France FIFA World Cup final".
Meanwhile, FIFA said it had already fined Mexico 100,000 Swiss francs ($107,840) for chants by its supporters during the team’s game against Poland and Saudi Arabia during the group stages.
The football associations of Ecuador, Serbia and Croatia are also facing disciplinary proceedings by FIFA.
