Foreign Guests have witnessed how cities of the future are being built, Fuad Karimli, Secretary General of the Global South NGO Platform, has stated after a panel meeting on water scarcity and effective water resource management during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan.

He said participants discussed trips organised to Karabakh, and they became familiar with the “smart village” projects being implemented in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

“They expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for these projects,” he noted.

The Secretary General added that non-governmental organisations and their partners working on smart city initiatives also held detailed discussions on the possibility of applying Azerbaijan’s experience in their own countries.

The panel included representatives from a number of countries, including Pakistan, Nigeria and Oman.

“The speeches focused on the importance of sustainable water management in the cities of the future, the impact of poor water management on women and youth, and the principles on which future cities should be built,” he stressed.
