France left hundreds of thousands of landmines in Algeria when it ended its century-long colonial rule, causing numerous injuries and accidents among ordinary Algerians, a scholar has told a conference in Baku.
Speaking at the “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality” conference, Nabila Hamedi, a lecturer and researcher at Mouloud Mammeri University in Algeria, said that while the Algerian people’s liberation struggle ultimately secured independence, France long resisted these efforts, Caliber.Az reports.
“Neocolonialism poses a security threat to small nations,” she added, highlighting the enduring dangers left by colonial legacies.
