Gas reserves in France’s storage facilities fall below 25%
Gas reserves in France’s underground storage facilities have dropped below 25%, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).
As of February 13, storage sites in France — one of Europe’s leaders in storage capacity — were filled to 24.98%, Caliber.Az reports.
Other leading gas storage countries are also rapidly using their accumulated fuel. Germany’s storage facilities are filled to just 24.4%, the Netherlands to 16.3%, Austria to 40.2%, and Italy to 51.4%. Slovakia’s facilities are at 34.3%, Hungary at 39.4%, the Czech Republic at 38.1%, Romania at 42.7%, Bulgaria at 47.7%, Belgium at 25.4%, Denmark at 30.9%, Latvia at 23.4%, and Croatia at 16.1%.
The previous gas withdrawal season in Europe ended on March 28, 2025, with storage levels at 33.57%. Currently, European facilities are 34.4% full — 16.28 percentage points below the five-year average for this date and down from 45.9% a year earlier.
Since the start of the heating season on October 13, EU countries have withdrawn more than 59 billion cubic meters of gas from storage. Net withdrawals — where total withdrawals exceed injections — have reached 54 billion cubic meters, equivalent to 98% of the volumes injected during the summer period.
