Georgia, Azerbaijan in talks to revive Tbilisi-Baku passenger train services
Georgia and Azerbaijan are deep in discussions to bring back passenger train services between Tbilisi and Baku, with negotiations intensifying over the past few weeks.
Georgian Railways confirmed the ongoing talks in a statement responding to an inquiry from Georgian media, per Caliber.Az.
Both nations are focused on resuming the much-anticipated rail link, which has been suspended for five years.
According to the railway company, teams from both countries are finalizing the technical details, with additional discussions involving key state institutions. While no specific timeline has been set, a firm date for the return of passenger trains will be revealed soon.
Passenger train services between Baku and Tbilisi were halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving a five-year gap without direct rail connectivity between the two cities.
