Georgia holding midterm, early elections
Interim parliamentary elections are being held in Shida Kartli's Gori and Kaspi districts, where voters will elect a majority MP, and in Kakheti's Gurjaani district will elect a mayor, the Georgian Central Election Commission reported.
The need for interim, extraordinary elections arose after Giorgi Khojevanishvili of ex-Prime Minister Gakharia's For Georgia party and Zurab Utiashvili of the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, respectively, left their positions as majority MP from Gori and Kaspi and mayor of Gurjaani prematurely, Caliber.Az with reference to Georgian media.
Voting is being held at 103 polling stations with the use of voter verification and vote counting machines, at the remaining 30 polling stations voting is being held according to the existing rules, while the ballots will still be digitized, uploaded to the relevant platform and made available to all interested parties.
