Georgia’s Bidzina Ivanishvili returns to politics

The founder of the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, said that he has returned to politics.

Ivanishvili recalled that three years ago, he announced that he had decided to distance himself from active political processes, TASS reports, citing Gazeta.ru.

“Now, three years later, on my own initiative, in the status of honorary chairman of the party, I am returning to political life,” he said at the ongoing party congress.

According to Ivanishvili, he is doing this to protect the ruling party from possible risks of split and corruption in the context of a “defeated opposition”.
