Erdogan: Türkiye and Japan can lead reconstruction of Ukraine and Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasised the potential for a strong Türkiye-Japan partnership in the reconstruction of Ukraine and Syria, noting its capacity to create a significant and lasting impact. His comments appeared in an article for Nikkei Shimbun.
“In the near future, there is promising potential for our companies to collaborate on infrastructure, energy, transportation, and other development projects across Africa and Central Asia. Furthermore, a tangible partnership between Türkiye and Japan in the reconstruction of Ukraine and Syria can generate profound value and meaningful outcomes,” Erdogan wrote.
The Turkish leader also highlighted the broader global context, observing that the international system is facing major crises, with the global economy experiencing repeated shocks, and energy and food security becoming increasingly fragile.
“Today, the international system is shaken by serious crises. The global economy faces continuous turbulence; energy and food security are under increasing pressure, and climate-related disasters are affecting all corners of the world. Rapid technological advancement presents both new opportunities and serious risks,” Erdogan noted.
He further stressed that these global challenges directly impact both Türkiye and Japan.
“Neither geographic distance nor economic strength can shield any nation from these issues. This reality underscores an essential truth: no country can address global challenges alone. Unilateral approaches are often ineffective, and international institutions are proving insufficient. At this critical moment, nations with deep-rooted civilisations, such as Türkiye and Japan, have the ability to offer constructive solutions through joint efforts,” Erdogan concluded.
