Georgia's Parliament unanimously approves new security chief
The Georgian Parliament has overwhelmingly approved Mamuka Mdinaradze as the new head of the State Security Service (SSSG), with 85 members of parliament voting unanimously in favor of his appointment.
The decision follows a closed-door hearing by the parliamentary committee on defence and security, where Mdinaradze’s candidacy was thoroughly evaluated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Committee Chairman Aleko Tabatadze justified the private nature of the session, citing procedural regulations and security concerns. Tabatadze expressed confidence in Mdinaradze’s suitability for the role, highlighting his professionalism and extensive experience as key attributes that are expected to ensure his success in leading the SSSG.
Mdinaradze succeeds Anri Okhanashvili, who vacated the position on August 23 to assume the role of advisor to the Georgian Prime Minister on security matters.
