Georgian analyst: Azerbaijan's victory reshapes South Caucasus
The outcome of Azerbaijan’s 44-day Patriotic War not only restored its territorial integrity, but also triggered significant shifts in the geopolitical dynamics of the South Caucasus region, Georgian Strategic Analysis Centre head Valeri Chechelashvili said.
Chechelashvili noted that Azerbaijan’s military and political success created the conditions necessary for initiating a peace agreement with Armenia. He said this process culminated in the initialing of a peace agreement in Washington on August 8, with the mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He emphasised that the benefits of peace extend beyond Azerbaijan. Armenia, Georgia, and the entire South Caucasus stand to gain from greater stability, increased investment appeal, and enhanced regional cooperation.
According to Chechelashvili, the new situation could strengthen regional trade routes, improve the security environment, and open new avenues for development across the region.
He concluded that this turning point marks the emergence of a fundamental basis for long-term prosperity and collaboration throughout the South Caucasus.
