Georgian MP praises Azerbaijani leader’s geopolitical vision, urges EU to recognize South Caucasus realities
Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Irakli Kadagishvili, has commended Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his precise understanding of the current geopolitical landscape.
Kadagishvili emphasized the importance of Aliyev’s recent remarks, particularly in the context of regional cooperation and strategic alignment between Georgia and Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev very accurately assesses the current geopolitical realities,” Kadagishvili stated, highlighting the strategic foresight behind Aliyev’s statements and policies. He expressed concern, however, over what he described as a lack of acknowledgment from certain European Union representatives regarding the geopolitical dynamics of the region—especially in relation to partnerships with Asian countries.
Kadagishvili underscored Georgia’s longstanding commitment to peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus. “It is unacceptable that some forces sow distrust between the countries of the region,” he said, warning against external attempts to undermine regional unity.
The Georgian lawmaker noted that Azerbaijan and Georgia share common positions on key regional issues and actively coordinate their actions. Referring to President Aliyev’s statements, he added, “Geopolitics and geography cannot be changed. Geography shows that the way between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea passes only through Azerbaijan and Georgia.”
He further noted that Azerbaijan is open to deepening cooperation with China and other global partners, but stressed that such collaboration is only feasible under conditions of peace and regional stability. “This route—the road stretching from the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea—should be used by all in the name of peace, development and prosperity. This approach should be properly understood by EU leaders as well,” Kadagishvili said.
Turning to bilateral relations, he reiterated that Georgia and Azerbaijan enjoy a close strategic partnership and are working jointly to advance the regional vision outlined by President Aliyev. He also voiced Georgia’s strong support for a lasting peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, expressing hope for a cooperative environment among all three South Caucasus nations.
