Global tax experts convene in Baku for 29th IOTA General Assembly

Baku has officially launched the technical session of the 29th General Assembly of the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations (IOTA), bringing together tax officials and experts from across Eurasia.

Azerbaijan's State Tax Service told local media that the session is being held under the theme “Adaptive and Flexible Tax Administration in a Rapidly Changing Environment” and has drawn participation from heads of tax administrations representing more than 40 IOTA member countries. 

Also in attendance are representatives of international organisations, policy experts, and invited guests.

The event is part of IOTA’s broader mission to promote cooperation and the exchange of knowledge among national tax authorities. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Budapest, Hungary, IOTA includes 44 member states across Europe and Eurasia. It provides a platform for tax administrations to share expertise, refine best practices, and coordinate responses to challenges such as tax evasion, digital transformation, and cross-border compliance issues.

The organisation also plays a critical role in offering technical support and capacity-building to its members, helping them align with global standards through partnerships with institutions like the OECD, the IMF, and the European Union. IOTA’s ongoing activities — including workshops, expert forums, and publications — continue to drive innovation and reform in tax governance.
