“The Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan is deeply saddened by the death of 20-year-old sergeant of Azerbaijani origin Lior Azizov during a military operation against Hamas on October 7. Lior was a fighter in the Golani Brigade. Lior's father Timur was a victim of a terrorist attack in Israel in 2005 and died 5 years after the attack from physical and mental injuries. Lior's grandfather Vahid Azizov died heroically during the First Karabakh War in 1992 and was buried at the Alley of Martyrs.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this family. Lior’s mother Natalie remembers him this way: ‘He was a smart, sensitive child, he wanted to become a doctor and an artist. Our first conversation with him took place on Saturday, the first day of the war. He said: ‘There is shooting here, but I’m fine, don’t worry. Mom, I promise I will call, I love you.’ This was his last call,” the embassy said in the post.
