Azerbaijani PM highlights growing regional connectivity via Caspian
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has underscored the strategic importance of the Caspian Sea for enhancing regional trade and economic cooperation, while also affirming Azerbaijan’s strong support for Turkmenistan’s initiative to establish a University of Neutrality under UN auspices.
Asadov made the statements in Ashgabat at the International Forum of Peace and Trust, held in honor of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Speaking about regional connectivity, Asadov stressed that the efficient operation of major transport corridors crossing the Caspian Sea is vital for all littoral states and opens new opportunities for expanding economic partnerships. He described the Caspian as a unifying space that plays an essential role in the economic life of the surrounding countries.
“Preserving the Caspian Sea as a zone of peace, prosperity, stability, and security enables the further deepening of trade, economic, and cultural ties, while creating favorable conditions for business and tourism,” he said.
“Important transport arteries pass through the Caspian Sea, and their successful functioning affects the interests of all countries in the region and opens new prospects for expanding trade and economic cooperation.”
Transitioning from regional connectivity to diplomatic initiatives, Asadov also highlighted Azerbaijan’s support for Turkmenistan’s plan to establish a University of Neutrality under the United Nations.
“A University of Neutrality is being established in Turkmenistan under the auspices of the UN. The Republic of Azerbaijan highly values Turkmenistan’s initiative and expresses its readiness to take an active part in the university’s activities,” he stated.
Asadov emphasized Azerbaijan’s consistent support for UN resolutions advanced by Turkmenistan relating to neutrality, noting that Baku joined the resolution International Year of Peace and Trust – 2025 as a co-author.
“We view these initiatives of brotherly Turkmenistan as an important contribution to the global architecture of peace and security,” he concluded.
