Economic partnership key element of UK–Azerbaijan strategic ties — envoy
The key component of the strategic ties between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan is economic partnership, British Ambassador to Baku Fergus Auld wrote on his X page.
“Economic partnership is at the heart of the UK-Azerbaijan strategic partnership. Following our recent meeting with President Ilham Aliyev on defence cooperation last week, I am pleased to have accompanied UK Trade Envoy Lord John Alderdice in his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev aimed at discussing economic opportunities,” the ambassador wrote, per Caliber.Az.
On December 3, UK Defence Minister Lord Vernon Coaker met with President Aliyev in Baku, marking the formal upgrade of bilateral ties to a "Strategic Partnership" announced by Europe Minister Stephen Doughty during his September 2025 visit. That meeting focused on defence tech transfers and joint exercises, with Coaker congratulating Aliyev on the Washington peace summit and emphasising mutual trust as a foundation for economic expansion.
