Greece unveils timeframe for transporting Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria
Greek Environment and Energy Minister Konstantinos Skrekas has said that Gas Interconnector Greece - Bulgaria (IGB), designed to transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Bulgaria, may be put into operation in July 2022.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will also attend the IGB opening ceremony in Komotini, Greece on July 8, 2022, Skrekas told reporters, Report informs referring to the Greek press.
IGB envisages the transportation of gas produced as part of the Shah Deniz Stage 2 in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Bulgaria.
The Bulgargaz EAD state company signed a contract with the Shah Deniz consortium for the supply of 1 billion cubic metres of gas from the Shah Deniz-2 field. Azerbaijani natural gas will be able to meet 25-30 per cent of Bulgaria's needs.
Some 150 kilometres of the pipeline with a total length of 182 kilometres stretch through Bulgaria. Its annual capacity is expected to reach 3-5 billion cubic metres.
