Head of CIS observation mission for presidential elections in Azerbaijan approved

Secretary General Sergey Lebedev will head the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) observer mission to the extraordinary presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

His candidacy was approved by the decision of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of the CIS countries to the statutory and other organs of the Commonwealth, Caliber.Az reports citing the Executive Committee.

The CIS observation mission will monitor the election campaign at the invitation of the Azerbaijani authorities. The Executive Committee of the CIS has sent out invitations to the countries of the CIS with a request to send their representatives to the mission.

Special presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on February 7, 2024.
