Hidden in morgues for 2,5 years: True fate of Armenian missing soldier
Some 2,5 years after the end of the 44-day Karabakh War, bodies of Armenian soldiers still remain in the morgues, while their families are left uninformed of their fate.
In this vein, the mother of the Armenian conscript Vahagn Khachatryan, Alina, found the body of her dead son in the Metsamor morgue.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media, Khachatryan was killed on October 10, 2020, in Hadrut. His head was found in 2021, at the same time the funeral took place in the Yerablur military pantheon.
“Two days ago, the parents called the Heratsi Medical Centre and asked if there were any new similarities. It turned out that the body is in the mortuary of Metsamor and is completely recognizable. In fact, the body of Vahagn Khachatryan remained in the refrigerator for 2.5 years, and nothing was reported to the parents about this. And if the parents had not taken an interest in the fate of their son, it would have remained there,” an Armenian source writes.
The mother of the dead Armenian soldier called this an unforgivable crime.
“For almost two years I dreamed of finding the body of my son. Now it turns out that it has been in Armenia since November 21, 2020. I'm not going to forgive this. This is a crime, because if everything was done normally in 2020, then even DNA would not be needed, I would recognize my child,” she underlined.
According to the information, when the Azerbaijanis handed over the body of the soldier in November 2020, he also had a phone with him. How hard can it be to find out the owner of the phone in the 21st century? Vahagn's body has been in Armenia since November 2020, but his name was on the Armenian National Security Service list of prisoners
“When we endlessly visited Nikol [Armenian Prime Minister], he asked each time if we had been tested. They lied to us all the time to buy time. I believe that at that time there were many bodies, they just decided to give them to their parents little by little,” the mother of the deceased soldier said.
