How Armenia–Azerbaijan rapprochement draws EU interest Article in Diplomatic World Sweden
Diplomatic World Sweden has published an analytical article in Swedish on the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and Europe's growing interest in this process. Caliber.Az presents the English version of the key parts from the piece.
The publication notes that after decades of confrontation, closed borders, and destroyed infrastructure, the South Caucasus is gradually entering a new phase. This is not about sudden reconciliation, but rather a step-by-step rapprochement based on pragmatic economic cooperation. One of the symbols of these changes has been the delivery of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia by rail—for the first time in many decades.

The authors emphasise that the restoration of transport and energy links is seen as an important element in building trust between the parties. This process is being closely monitored in Brussels, where improved relations between Yerevan and Baku are viewed as an opportunity to establish new transport, trade, and energy corridors between Europe and Asia via the South Caucasus.
The material pays particular attention to the initiative to develop the TRIPP corridor and the idea of creating a four-party cooperation format involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and the European Union. It is stressed that the successful implementation of such projects is possible only with sustained political dialogue, basic infrastructure, and long-term commitments from Europe.
In conclusion, the article notes that the region is gradually moving away from a policy of isolation toward practical steps—restoring railway connections, freight transit, and expanding professional contacts.
