Insurance leaders to convene in Azerbaijan’s Shusha for first Turkic States Congress
Executive director of the Association of Insurers of Azerbaijan Elmar Mirsalayev has said that the first Congress of the Insurance Union of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) will be held in Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and the Turkic world.
He noted that preparation for the event has already commenced, and the first Shusha Congress is set to make history, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The Organisation of Turkic States, initially known as the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organisation. Its primary objective is to foster comprehensive cooperation among Turkic States.
The founding member states - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye - were later joined by Uzbekistan as a full member during the 7th Summit in Baku in October 2019. Hungary attained observer status at the 6th Summit in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, in September 2018. Turkmenistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) became observer members of the Organisation.
Turkmenistan joined during the 8th Summit held in November 2021, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in November 2022 and the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) in 2023. The principal bodies of the Organisation are the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Elders, the Senior Officials Committee and the Secretariat.
