Iran confirms new supreme leader injured, condition stable
Iran's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the country’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, sustained an injury.
The ministry emphasised that Khamenei’s condition is satisfactory and that he is feeling well, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Earlier, The New York Times reported, citing sources, that Khamenei was injured on February 28 — the first day of the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Sources suggested this was the reason for his absence from public appearances and for security precautions, while stressing that he remained conscious and in normal health. Following the report, Khamenei’s son and presidential advisor, Yousef Pezeshkian, stated that the Supreme Leader is in full health.
Reuters later reported that sources confirmed Khamenei was "lightly injured", likely to his leg, but continues to carry out his duties.
