Iran convenes emergency government meeting following Israeli strikes
The Iranian government convened an emergency meeting in response to the Israeli military strikes on its territory, a statement by the press service of President Masoud Pezeshkian said.
The high-level meeting focused on assessing the internal situation across the country in the wake of the attacks, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Iranian officials emphasized the readiness of all executive bodies to ensure the continued provision of essential services and supplies, including fuel, medicine, and other basic necessities.
“During the meeting, the situation in the country was discussed, the readiness of all executive authorities to provide basic needs [of the population], fuel, medicines and other necessities was declared, and the necessary planning was carried out,” the statement noted.
In the early hours of June 13, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a large-scale military operation codenamed Rising Lion, during which the Israeli Air Force (IAF) conducted multiple waves of precision airstrikes across Iranian territory. The operation focused on military installations and components of Iran’s nuclear program.
According to reports, targets included key strategic sites in Tehran, where several high-ranking Iranian military officials were killed.
The attacks also resulted in the deaths of key Iranian military and scientific leaders. Among the casualties was Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. General Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was also killed, a loss that the IRGC officially confirmed.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that the operation will continue.
