Russian online services begin restricting access for VPN users
Major Russian digital platforms have started partially limiting access for users connecting through virtual private networks (VPNs).
Some users have encountered difficulties accessing popular services such as Yandex, VK, several online marketplaces, as well as banking applications including Sberbank and T-Bank. In certain cases, videos fail to load or users receive connection error messages when attempting to use these platforms with a VPN enabled, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The disruptions are not limited to private companies. Reports indicate that some government websites may also become inaccessible when accessed via VPN connections.
Separately, Russia's RBC previously reported that Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development held a meeting with major internet companies, during which it recommended introducing measures to detect and restrict VPN traffic. These measures could begin to take effect as early as April 15, although the timeline has not been officially confirmed.
