Iran lawmaker slams possible US talks in New York as “weakness”
Iranian officials have criticized the possibility of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi holding talks with US representatives in New York, Iran International reports.
Ali Khazarian, a member of Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that conducting such meetings on US soil reflects what he described as the “weakness and vulnerability” of the Islamic Republic’s position.
He argued that discussing issues such as the status of the Strait of Hormuz on “enemy territory” would place Iran in an unfavorable position.
“I hope this information is false, because holding a meeting in New York, meaning on enemy territory and with the participation of Gulf countries, requires clarification. Such an action places the Islamic Republic in a position of weakness,” Khazarian said.
