Iran open to Strait of Hormuz usage agreement with other nations
Iran is prepared to negotiate agreements with European, Asian, and Arab countries on the use of the Strait of Hormuz, the head of the government’s Information Council, Elias Hazrati, announced.
He said that Iran has full control over the Strait of Hormuz, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
“[President Donald] Trump is talking nonsense about the Strait of Hormuz. Today, we have come to the idea that we might announce an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz. We will invite European, Asian, and Arab countries that want to use it to sign an agreement with us,” Hazrati said on Iran’s state radio and television network.
On April 1, President Donald Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz—a key shipping route off the coast of Iran, blocked after US and Israeli strikes in February—“will open on its own” once the conflict ends. According to Trump, the US does not require shipments through the strait, and restoring navigation should be the responsibility of the countries that rely on it for transporting oil.
