Iran puts Rasht-Caspian railway line into operation
The commissioning ceremony of the Rasht-Caspian railway has been held in the Iranian Gilan province.
Acting President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber attended the launch ceremony, Trend reports citing the Iranian media.
The Rasht-Caspian railway is considered an additional link in the International North-South Transport Corridor, and this important project is known as a bridge connecting European countries with the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf.
The tracks are planned to be built from the Caspian Port to Iran's north-western Astara city in the future.
The project will bring considerable benefit to Iran and regional transport networks.
The 37-kilometre Rasht-Caspian Railway completes the Qazvin-Rasht rail route and connects the city of Rasht to the Caspian Sea.
Located in the northern part of Iran, the primary purpose of the Rasht-Caspian Railway is to enhance connectivity to facilitate transportation and trade links between Iran and the Caspian Sea region northward and to the railway network southward. It provides a more efficient and cost-effective mode of transportation for freight and passengers.
