Iran’s rail exchange with Azerbaijan up 63 per cent
Imports, exports, and transit through the Astara border with the Republic of Azerbaijan have increased by 63 per cent since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, an Iranian railways official said.
Speaking to IRNA, Gholam Hossein Valadi said on July 30 that 225,982 tons of goods have been exchanged through the Astara railway terminal, IRNA reports.
This is while the figure was 138,530 metric tons last year, he added.
He noted that 88,156 metric tons of goods were transited through the Astara border, which shows a 133 per cent increase.
He referred to flour, millet, barley, wheat, chemicals, zinc ore, industrial soil, and wood and timber as the main transited goods.
Valadi went on to say that the volume of imports from Azerbaijan was 69,455 metric tons, which shows 114 per cent growth compared to last year.
