Iranian leader announces plans to shift capital to improve efficiency
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that the authorities began developing a project to relocate the capital of the Islamic Republic.
The president made these remarks during a meeting with members of the Cabinet of Ministers, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Moreover, President Pezeshkian appointed his First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref to oversee the preparation of the plan. Pezeshkian emphasised that neglecting this issue could lead to an environmental crisis and other problems in the future.
The president added that Iran seeks to harness the potential of its neighbouring countries.
The Iranian government places great importance on strengthening economic ties with its neighbours, as this could help the country achieve economic growth and reduce the impact of sanctions.
In September, the Iranian president stated that the political and economic centre should be moved to the southern coast.
President Pezeshkian justified his proposal by emphasising the need to increase Iran's competitiveness. Currently, raw materials must first be transported from the south and coast to the central region, and once the final product is manufactured, it is then sent back to the south for export.
