Iranian parliament speaker arrives in Baku for Asian Parliamentary Assembly plenary session
Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has arrived in Baku to attend the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), which brings together legislative representatives from across the region to discuss multilateral cooperation.
Ghalibaf emphasised Tehran’s commitment to strengthening international and regional ties with Azerbaijan ahead of his departure, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
“Azerbaijan and Iran share centuries-old historical and multifaceted relations. During this visit, I will hold bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials to enhance cooperation in political, economic, social, and cultural spheres,” he stated.
The APA session, held under the theme “The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation in Asia,” is expected to gather delegations from 26 countries, representatives of six international organisations, and more than ten parliamentary speakers.
Discussions will take place across various committees focusing on political, economic, budgetary, and social issues. The session will conclude with the adoption of key resolutions, the Baku Declaration, and a final report from the APA Secretariat.
Additionally, with Azerbaijan concluding its tenure as APA chair, the assembly will deliberate on the organisation’s new leadership and its agenda for the next two years.
