Iranian Railways eyes Nakhchivan route for Armenia trade
Iran is considering the transportation of cargo through a railway passing via Nakhchivan, said Jabbar Ali Zakeri, CEO of the Iranian Railways.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 83rd meeting of the CIS Railway Transport Council, Zakeri noted that negotiations were held with representatives of JSC South Caucasus Railway, the operator of Armenia’s rail network, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The talks focused on the potential transit of a portion of Iranian cargo to Armenia via Nakhchivan, aiming to create an efficient and reliable transport corridor.
“This will make it possible to launch a railway in Nakhchivan in the future. We aim to implement this project as soon as possible,” Zakeri said, emphasizing Iran’s commitment to advancing the initiative.
