Iranian vessel runs aground in Volga-Caspian Channel, crew safe
An Iranian motor vessel, the Persian Sophia, ran aground while en route from the Iranian port of Amirabad to the Russian port of Astrakhan.
The incident occurred at the 152nd kilometer of the Volga-Caspian Channel, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Astrakhan region said, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries, and the crew of the vessel is not in need of medical assistance. Additionally, the ship is well-stocked with food supplies. Authorities confirmed that the ship's course has not been disrupted, and there has been no fuel spill or damage to the vessel.
The relevant emergency and maritime services have been notified and are coordinating efforts to address the situation.
The Persian Sophia continues to be monitored, and no further details on the cause of the grounding have been provided at this time. The vessel's interaction with the necessary authorities is ongoing as they work toward resolving the incident.
