IRGC takes control of key government appointments in Iran
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has effectively taken control over key government appointments in Iran, following escalating tensions between civilian authorities and military commanders, according to a report by Iran International.
The developments have left President Masoud Pezeshkian in what sources described as a “complete political deadlock.”
Sources cited in the report said the IRGC is resisting presidential decisions and appointments, establishing what was described as a “security fence” around the central structures of executive power.
Efforts by Pezeshkian to nominate a new intelligence minister last week stalled amid internal pressure. According to the report, Ahmad Vahidi intervened directly, leading to the rejection of all proposed candidates, including Hossein Dehghan.
Iran International reported that Vahidi stated that under current wartime conditions, all key leadership roles should, until further notice, be appointed and overseen directly by the IRGC.
