Israel targets Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon
The Israeli military says it has struck Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, targeting what it described as military infrastructure belonging to the group.
According to a statement from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), the air strikes hit a launcher and a tunnel shaft in the area of Mahmudiyah, near the Israeli-Lebanese border.
The IDF said the presence of such infrastructure in the area breached existing understandings between the two countries.
IDF also said it conducted an overnight operation in the southern Lebanese town of Blida targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. During the raid, troops identified a suspect in a building reported by local media as Blida’s municipality and initiated a “suspect arrest procedure.”
The IDF stated that soldiers opened fire after perceiving an immediate threat, resulting in a hit. Lebanese media reported that a municipal worker was killed. The military added that the incident is under investigation.
According to the IDF, the building had recently been used by Hezbollah for “terror activity under the guise of civilian infrastructure.” Lebanese army forces reportedly arrived after the IDF withdrew, with no confrontation reported between the two sides.
