The minister underlined the growing geopolitical and geo-economic significance of the South Caucasus and wider region, stressing “the need for closer coordination in addressing common challenges, and the opportunities arising from enhanced regional cooperation.”
Bayramov also briefed participants on Azerbaijan’s ongoing normalisation process with Armenia, noting continued diplomatic efforts while acknowledging that “remaining issues for sustainable and lasting peace” still need to be resolved.
Regional security developments were also discussed, including the situations around Iran and Gaza. The ministers, according to the statement, stressed “the importance of diplomacy, dialogue and respect for international law” in addressing ongoing crises.
A key focus of the talks was energy and transport connectivity, with Bayramov highlighting the strategic importance of major regional infrastructure projects. He noted that “from the BTC and BTE pipelines, the Southern Gas Corridor and BTK railway to green energy corridors and the Middle Corridor, our partnership contributes to regional and global energy security and economic resilience.”
The minister also emphasised new connectivity initiatives, including the TRIPP project and the importance of establishing an “unimpeded link between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic,” describing such projects as confidence-building measures that could support “regional cooperation, sustainable peace and prosperity.”
Beyond energy and transport, Bayramov pointed to significant potential for expanding cooperation in ICT, high technologies, agriculture, water management, tourism, climate action and security.
He also welcomed Türkiye’s role in global climate diplomacy, highlighting its hosting of the 31st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) and stressing the importance of “collective climate action.”
The meeting concluded with the signing of the Istanbul Declaration of the Tenth Trilateral Meeting by the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia, reaffirming their shared strategic priorities and commitment to deepening cooperation.
