Kazakhstan, China sign dozens of documents worth over $20 billion
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping signed 47 documents worth $22 billion.
The documents were signed during the Kazakh-Chinese investment roundtable in Xi'an City as part of Tokayev’s official visit to China on May 17, Kazinform reports, citing the press service of Kazakhstan’s Presidential Palace.
A series of documents were signed in transport, agriculture, trade and economic cooperation and cultural relations, as well as agreements on twinning between the cities of Shymkent (Kazakhstan) and Xi'an (China), between North Kazakhstan Region and Shaanxi Province.
Tokayev noted that the Kazakh-Chinese talks at the highest level took place on May 17.
The presidents exchanged views on a wide range of bilateral issues, reached specific agreements and signed a joint statement.
"The agreements reached will give a strong impetus to close cooperation between the two countries. Kazakhstan is interested in further strengthening multilateral ties with China. We will make every effort to achieve this goal. A series of large companies with Chinese capital are successfully operating in our country. Among them are such corporations as CNPC [China National Petroleum Corporation], CITIC, NFC, Sinopec, and Huawei. Despite this, we need to further strengthen the potential of our cooperation," Tokayev said.
Last year, the volume of mutual trade reached a 30-year high of more than $31 billion.
