Kazakhstan erecting 20 more border outposts on border with Russia
Kazakhstan, within the framework of the Safe Country national project, is mounting 20 border outposts on the border with Russia.
Serik Akhmetkaliyev, First Deputy Head of the Border Protection Department under the Border Service of the National Security Committee, said, Kommersant reports.
According to him, in total the project involves the construction of 50 complexes of border outposts. Three modular outposts are also being built on the southern borders of the republic. Akhmetkaliyev specified that over the past five years, 15 modular border outposts have been put into operation in the south-west of the country.
In addition, reconstruction of 46 automobile border checkpoints is planned for the next two years, the first deputy head of the department, Gani Agadilov, added. He said that the reconstruction of key checkpoints, including those on the border with the Russian Federation, will be carried out in the next two years.
“This is the expansion of traffic lanes at checkpoints, the construction of new buildings and structures for the service of border guards and the comfortable passage of persons and vehicles. Technical means of border control, non-intrusive (non-contact) inspection will be installed,” he added.
Now there are 101 checkpoints along the perimeter of Kazakhstan. Of these, seven operate on the border with China, eight with Kyrgyzstan, 11 with Uzbekistan, two with Turkmenistan, and 51 with Russia. There are also three sea and 19 air checkpoints.
