Kazmortransflot boosts oil and container transport on Aktau-Baku route
Kazmortransflot, a key subsidiary of KazMunaiGas (KMG), has reported a substantial increase in its transport activities on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) for the first seven months of 2024.
The company transported 25,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers between January and July 2024, Caliber.Az reports referring to the company's data.
This represents a dramatic 2.4-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Since the initiation of the Aktau-Baku route in April 2019, Kazmortransflot has achieved a significant milestone, with total container shipments reaching 100,000 TEUs by early August 2024.
In addition to its container transport success, Kazmortransflot has also reported a major uptick in oil transportation across the Caspian Sea. From January to July 2024, the company moved 1.292 million tonnes of oil, which is 3.9 times higher than the volume transported in the same period last year.
On the Aktau-Baku route specifically, oil transportation saw a 75% increase, climbing from 246,000 tonnes in the previous year to 431,000 tonnes during the reporting period. This surge underscores the route's expanding role in meeting the growing demand for oil transport in the region.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, commonly referred to as the "Middle Corridor," is a crucial international transport corridor linking China with Europe. It traverses Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia before reaching Turkey and European destinations. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, an integral part of this corridor, facilitates the movement of goods across this extensive network.
