Kremlin spokesman says CSTO offers no "freeze" regime

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said there is no “freeze” regime in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

There is no clarity on Armenia's position regarding withdrawal from the CSTO yet, Peskov noted, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

"No, it hasn't appeared yet. We have quite frequent contacts with our Armenian partners here. Of course, we will clarify it. Based on the relevant documents, there is no such regime in the CSTO plan. We will communicate, we will find out," Peskov told reporters.

Armenia has frozen its participation in the Russian-led CSTO, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with France24 on February 22.

"At the same time, the issue of keeping the Russian military base in Armenia is not on the agenda," he noted, per Caliber.Az.

Pashinyan also said that "a few months ago Russia openly called on the Armenian people to overthrow the government".

According to him, this propaganda from Moscow against him is not abating.

It should be noted that Armenia and Russia signed an agreement in 1992. This agreement regulates the status and activities of the Russian border troops on Armenian territory.
