Kremlin warns of “contradictory” media storm around Ukraine peace efforts
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has described the discourse surrounding the peace plan reportedly proposed by Washington for resolving the Ukrainian crisis as an “information bacchanalia,” citing the large volume of contradictory reports circulating in the media.
Peskov made the comments during a briefing with journalists, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Right now it is impossible to comment on every media report. I would describe the situation as an information bacchanalia — there is no other word for it. Indeed, a great deal of contradictory information is being published, contradictory statements and so on,” Peskov said, underscoring the confusion generated by conflicting narratives.
He noted that the Kremlin is closely monitoring press coverage regarding alleged contacts between Russian and US representatives in Abu Dhabi, but stressed that there have been no substantive developments. “We still have nothing to report [about such contacts]. We are following media reports, and we are analyzing them carefully,” he stated.
Addressing broader security questions, Peskov emphasized that any discussion on the architecture of European security cannot proceed meaningfully without the participation of European states, though he suggested their involvement in ongoing talks on the Ukrainian settlement would come at a later stage.
“Naturally, discussing the European security system — and it is difficult to talk about security guarantees without a comprehensive security system — is practically impossible without the participation of Europeans,” he said. “At some stage, their involvement will certainly be necessary.”
Peskov reiterated that Russia remains committed to achieving its objectives through diplomatic means and continues to be open to negotiations.
