Kyiv Mayor: Ukraine may face territorial concessions for temporary peace
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klichko has suggested that Ukraine may have to consider giving up some territories as part of a peace agreement with Russia amid mounting pressure from US President Donald Trump.
In an interview with British media, Klichko acknowledged that one potential scenario could involve territorial concessions, describing such a move as "unjust," Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
However, he stated that it could be a "temporary solution" for peace.
"The decision to give up territory is unfair, but for peace — a temporary peace — it might be a necessary step," Klichko said.
The mayor indicated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may be forced to make "painful decisions" in pursuit of peace. When asked whether Zelenskyy had discussed any potential details of the peace settlement with him, Klichko responded, "No." He added that Zelenskyy does not believe it is necessary to involve him in such discussions.
"It’s not my role, it’s Zelenskyy's role," Klichko remarked, clarifying that he does not seek a part in peace negotiations.
Additionally, Klichko reflected on the February altercation between Zelenskyy and Trump in the White House, suggesting that key discussions between leading politicians are better conducted "without cameras."
