Kyrgyz authorities foil plot to incite post-election unrest, 10 arrested
The Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan has disrupted the activities of a destructive group planning mass unrest following the parliamentary elections, detaining ten individuals, the ministry’s press service reported.
According to authorities, the group included political figures, former MPs, ex-government officials, and members of law enforcement. They allegedly recruited supporters, including criminal gangs and sports communities, to stage provocations and violent clashes.
“The detainees planned a series of rallies across the country after the election results were announced, starting from the south and moving to Bishkek and other regions, creating the appearance of widespread dissatisfaction. Their plans included anti-constitutional calls, and potential seizures of administrative buildings, TV channels, security agencies, weapons, and penitentiary facilities,” the press service stated.
During searches, authorities seized weapons, ammunition, grenades, communication devices, $150,000 in cash, documents related to the financing of unrest, operational plans, and narcotics. The ten detainees have been charged with preparing to organise mass unrest involving violence, looting, and arson, and have been placed in pre-trial detention.
