Lithuania to receive €150 million from EU for border strengthening
Lithuania is set to receive €150 million from the European Union to enhance its border security with Russia, Lithuanian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite announced.
The funding is aimed at bolstering infrastructure along the eastern borders of Lithuania, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Bilotaite highlighted the recent decision made at a Council of Interior Ministers meeting, where it was confirmed that significant financial support would be allocated to Lithuania.
“Recently there was a meeting of the Council of Interior Ministers, and there was a very clear message that we will receive funding from Europe. Now it is planned 150 million euros, namely to strengthen the infrastructure of the eastern borders,” Bilotaite said.
Although Vilnius has not observed substantial migration flows from the Russian Federation, the government acknowledges the need to fortify its border defences. "We realize that we need to strengthen,” Bilotaite added.
The Lithuanian Border Guard Service has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive action plan to outline priorities for the fortification of the border.
