Lithuania to send aid to Ukraine after Kakhovka dam blast

07 June 2023 17:06

Lithuania has announced its intentions to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine in response to the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station in the Kherson Oblast.

"We understand that this is a very challenging situation, and we must do everything possible to help our friends and brothers in Ukraine," LRT cites Agnė Bilotaitė, Lithuanian Minister of Internal Affairs.

Lithuania plans to provide Ukraine with 30 tents, 240 folding beds, and financial aid of 50,000 euros.

Additionally, the country is preparing for a possible new flow of refugees from Ukraine.

On the morning of 6 June, Ukraine’s Operational Command Pivden (South) reported that the Russian occupation forces had blown up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), with Kherson Oblast Military Administration confirming this information. Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Oblast Military Administration, noted that they had started the evacuation of the local population from dangerous areas.

US President Joe Biden previously expressed a firm readiness to provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine following the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station by Russians.
