Media: Israel secretly planted explosives in 5,000 Hezbollah’s pagers
Israel’s Mossad spy agency planted explosives in 5,000 pagers imported by Hezbollah months before the September 17 explosions.
The operation represented an unprecedented breach of Hezbollah’s security, with thousands of pagers exploding across Lebanon, killing nine people and injuring nearly 3,000 others, including members of the group and Iran’s envoy to Beirut, Caliber.Az reports via Reuters.
The Lebanese security source stated that the pagers were sourced from the Taiwan-based company Gold Apollo. However, the firm denied manufacturing the devices, claiming they were produced by a European company licensed to use its brand.
Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has vowed to retaliate against Israel, whose military declined to comment on the explosions.
The senior Lebanese security source revealed that the group had ordered 5,000 beepers from Gold Apollo, with various sources reporting that they had been brought into the country earlier this year.
