Media: Israeli officials believe IRGC chief Pakpour killed in strikes on Iran
Israeli officials have assessed that several senior Iranian military and government figures, including the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, may have been killed in airstrikes on Iran on February 28, the Times of Israel reports.
Pakpour assumed leadership of the IRGC following the killing of his predecessor, Hossein Salami, at the start of the June 2025 conflict. Officials also indicated that Iran’s defence minister and chief of intelligence may have been among those killed, though these reports have not been independently confirmed by Iran or the Israeli Defense Forces.
The strikes targeted several senior figures within Iran’s military and political hierarchy, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. The outcomes of the attacks remain unclear.
